"Lip flip" and "lip filler" sound interchangeable, and a surprising amount of online advice treats them as the same thing. They're not. One uses Botox to subtly reshape the lip you have; the other adds real volume. Knowing the difference is the difference between getting what you pictured and being disappointed.

The lip flip
A lip flip uses a few units of Botox placed along the upper lip border. Relaxing that muscle lets the edge of the lip gently roll up and out, so a little more of your natural lip shows — especially when you smile. It adds no volume; it just changes how the lip sits. It's subtle, takes minutes, and lasts about 6–10 weeks. Think of it as a low-commitment tweak.
Lip filler
Lip filler uses a hyaluronic-acid gel (a type of dermal filler) to add genuine volume and definition — fuller lips, a sharper border, more balanced proportions. The change is immediate and buildable, and it lasts roughly 6–18 months. If you actually want bigger or more defined lips, filler is the tool; a flip alone won't get you there.
Which should you choose?
- Want a subtle change, more lip show, or a soft gummy-smile fix? → lip flip.
- Want real, lasting volume and shape? → lip filler.
- Want both shape and fullness? → combine them — filler for volume, a flip for extra show.
- Not sure? → a flip is the easy, reversible way to test the waters first.
- Lip flip = Botox, reshapes, no added volume, ~6–10 weeks.
- Lip filler = hyaluronic acid, adds real volume, ~6–18 months.
- A surgical lip lift is a different, permanent procedure — not the same as a flip.
- They pair well; a flip is the lowest-commitment way to start.
