The Treatment

Microneedling + your own PRP

Microneedling creates thousands of controlled micro-channels that prompt the skin to rebuild collagen. Adding platelet-rich plasma from your own blood puts the growth factors involved in healing exactly where that rebuilding happens.

The session starts with numbing cream and a small blood draw. The sample is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma, and the provider then microneedles the treatment area and works the PRP into the open channels while they are still receptive. Because the PRP is yours, there is nothing foreign to react to.

Clients book it for acne scarring, enlarged pores, fine lines, and a tone that has gone flat. Redness like a mild sunburn is expected for the first one to three days, and the collagen response keeps building for weeks after each session, which is why it is usually planned as a short series rather than a single visit.

Microneedling with PRP is one of three growth-factor options on our menu. If you would rather skip the blood draw, microneedling with PDGF uses a ready-made growth-factor serum, and PRP can also be injected on its own for under-eyes and hair. The consultation sorts out which one fits.

How It Works

Draw, spin, needle, apply

  1. 01

    Numb

Topical anesthetic goes on first and sits while your PRP is being prepared.

  2. 02

    Draw

A small blood sample is taken from your arm, the same as a routine lab draw.

  3. 03

    Spin

The sample is centrifuged to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood.

  4. 04

    Needle + apply

The provider microneedles the treatment area and works the PRP into the open micro-channels.

FAQ

Microneedling with PRP questions

Is microneedling with PRP the same as a "vampire facial"?

The technique people usually mean by that nickname is microneedling followed by your own platelet-rich plasma, which is what this page describes. "Vampire Facial" is a registered trademark held by a separate licensing organization that Skinsation LA is not affiliated with, so we describe the treatment by what it is: microneedling with PRP.

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma is a fraction of your own blood. A small sample is drawn, spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich layer, and that layer is applied to the skin during and immediately after microneedling. Platelets carry the growth factors involved in normal wound healing, which is why PRP is paired with a controlled microneedling pass.

What happens during the appointment?

Numbing cream goes on first. While it takes effect, your blood is drawn and processed. The provider then microneedles the treatment area and works the PRP into the open micro-channels. Plan on about 60 minutes in the room, most of it numbing and processing time.

How many sessions will I need?

Most treatment plans are a series of three sessions spaced about four to six weeks apart, with maintenance sessions later if you want to keep building. Your provider sets the cadence at the consultation based on your skin and your goal.

What is the downtime?

Expect redness similar to a sunburn for 24 to 72 hours, sometimes with pinpoint marks or mild swelling. Most clients return to normal activity the next day and follow the aftercare sheet on makeup, sun exposure, and skincare for the first few days.

Who is a good candidate?

Clients working on acne scarring, enlarged pores, uneven texture, fine lines, or a dull, uneven tone. It is not performed during pregnancy, over active skin infections, or for clients with certain blood or platelet disorders. The consultation screens for all of that before anything is booked.

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

Skin typically looks brighter within the first couple of weeks, and the collagen response keeps building for several weeks after each session. How long results hold depends on your skin, sun habits, and whether you maintain. Many clients return every six to twelve months once the initial series is done.

How much does microneedling with PRP cost in Los Angeles?

At Skinsation LA it is $700 per session, with the consultation included. Series pricing is discussed at the consult.
