The Treatment

What is hyaluronidase

If you've searched for a 'filler dissolver,' you've found the right page — that's the consumer name for hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid (the active ingredient in most modern dermal fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, RHA, and Belotero). The hyaluronidase injection dissolves the filler gel over hours to days.

This is the undo button for HA filler. The most common use cases: lip filler that's over-filled or migrated above the vermilion border, cheek filler that pillowed, or simply wanting to reset before re-filling with a different plan. Most clients arrive having searched 'filler dissolving' or 'dissolve lip filler' — same procedure, just the consumer phrasing.

In rare cases of vascular occlusion — filler accidentally injected into a blood vessel — hyaluronidase is used urgently to clear the vessel and prevent tissue damage. Skinsation injectors carry it on site for this reason.

A real Skinsation LA dissolving session — hyaluronidase placed precisely into the area to undo HA filler.

When dissolving is the right call

Lips look migrated above the vermilion border. Cheeks look pillowed or over-filled. Asymmetry that won't resolve. Want to start over with a new injector or new filler plan. Vascular emergency (call us first — we'll see you immediately).

How It Works

Dissolution explained

  1. 01

    Consult

Your injector confirms it's HA filler (not permanent fillers or biostimulators — those don't dissolve) and identifies exactly the area to correct.

  2. 02

    Inject

Small doses of hyaluronidase placed into the filler. Pinches briefly. Most areas need only a few injection points.

  3. 03

    Dissolve

Most visible change in 24-48 hours. Full dissolution by 1-2 weeks. Some swelling is normal.

  4. 04

    Plan next

Wait 2 weeks before re-filling. This gives tissue time to settle and us a true baseline for new filler.

FAQ

Dissolution questions

Is filler dissolving the same as a hyaluronidase injection?

Yes — they describe the same procedure. 'Filler dissolving' is the everyday phrase clients search; 'hyaluronidase injection' is the clinical term. The enzyme is hyaluronidase, the action is dissolving the HA filler, and the result is the same either way.

What's the difference between hyaluronidase and Hylenex?

There isn't a meaningful difference for the patient — Hylenex is a brand name for a hyaluronidase product (other forms include Vitrase, and internationally Liporase). All are versions of the same enzyme. The label on the vial doesn't change what the injection does to your filler.

How does hyaluronidase dissolve filler?

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid — the active ingredient in most modern fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, RHA, Belotero). Injected into the area, it breaks down the filler within hours to days.

How fast does it work?

Most filler is visibly reduced in 24-48 hours. Full dissolution can take up to 1-2 weeks depending on how much filler is present and how long it's been in place.

Will it dissolve all my filler?

Yes — hyaluronidase is non-selective. If you have filler in multiple areas and only want to dissolve one, placement matters. Your injector will inject only the area you're correcting.

Can I get new filler after dissolving?

Yes. Most injectors wait 2 weeks after dissolution before re-filling — this lets the tissue settle so we can see your true baseline and plan the new filler correctly.

When is dissolving the right call?

Over-filled areas, migrated filler (especially lips), vascular occlusion (emergency — we'll see you immediately), granulomas, or simply wanting to reset and start over. Not a decision to rush — your injector will honestly tell you if dissolving is warranted or if the issue will resolve naturally.

How painful is it to dissolve fillers?

Is the filler dissolving procedure painful? Most patients tolerate the filler dissolving procedure well. You may feel a slight stinging or pressure during the procedure, but it is usually brief. Any discomfort after the procedure is mild and resolves within a few hours to a day.
