Union Station
It is the primary railroad station in Los Angeles, California. In fact, it is the biggest railroad passenger terminal in the Western United States. It serves around 110,000 passengers a day. The Union Station was built in 1939 and the architecture is a combination of Spanish Colonial Revival, Streamline Modern Styles and Mission Revival. The people who led this project are John and Donald Parkinson. They were also the men behind the design of Los Angeles City Hall and other famous landmarks in the city.
When Union Station was built, it was to serve as a transcontinental terminus station for Santa Fe, Union Pacific, and Southern Pacific Railways. During World War II, it serves as the major hub for troop movement. In 1980, the station was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1992, it has undergone restoration. In 2011, Metro acquired Union Station. Today, Union Station serves as a transportation hub for Amtrak, some Metro Railway subway, Metrolink commuter trains, and other transport services and urban mixed-use development sites such as coach and bus services.
